social knitting, 2022–TODAY

social knitting
developed to transform knitting into a collaborative tool; allowing for social encounters, encouraging interaction with one another to create in correspondence with the other maker(s), the material and the craft itself.
to loop, to knot, to stitch, to touch
we knit with our bodies, a multiplicity of hands forming loops, networking and linking each other. holding onto our yarn, an embodied way of knitting as a group or in pairs of two. our material is soft – textiles that served another purpose. to repurpose. to radically reform. we use materials that have a story to tell, that we can listen to, that are soft and ever changing.
we sense, we hold, we listen, we learn and unlearn
this is an invitation to knit with us in a large circle, to radically reform together. with every loop formed by our hands, a social space emerges. a space for imagination, a growing structure that is held by our network, our community, to survive on the basis of mutual aid, of being soft. to dream, to imagine and to be hopeful for a communal way of living. for soft social spaces that emerge from a social practice together.
